Hi, i’m Jordan!

Or you can call me ‘JordShorts’

Currently participating in the Screen Queensland Games Residency Program 2025, I am spending this year with a cohort of incredibly creative minds in a space of our own making games and building industry skills and connections. This is the third year that the residency has been run, and is a competitive program to get into. My main goals for this year are to have a game shipped on Steam, flesh out my portfolio through game jams / smaller projects throughout the year, and connect with others in the SEQ games industry to establish myself and showcase my skills.

Before the residency I had just graduated with my Associate Degree in Games Development majoring in Programming from SAE Creative Media Institute in Meanjin (Brisbane).

During my time there I have formalised my understanding and critical engagement with video games and other forms of art and media, learning the why's and how's that make great media great. For my major, I have pushed what was required of us to ensure that I have a rock solid foundational understanding of C#, Unity, and programming concepts more broadly.

During this last semester, I chose to undertake two projects within my study to highlight my skills and abilities. The first is a game that was made by just two people, with me as the sole programmer (Woven Work), and the second is a world / level generation tool in Unity, with not just world generation, but also animal AI agent simulation using GOAP after the world generates. This was done as part of a three person programmer team (Creature Feature).

In addition to my study, I also came 5th out of 50 entries in Ubisoft Australia's Official Game Jam 2024’s popular vote. For the jam, Australian students had two weeks to come up with a game using the theme 'Trash.' I submitted 'Birdside Collection' a game based on Kerbside collection days, but instead of simply disposing of the trash, you repurpose it and give it to your neighbours who are looking for the things others are throwing away. I did it without a team and could only dedicate half the allotted time to create it due to study commitments, but I am very proud of how it turned out.

I consider myself to have two decades of hands-on games experience, and at least 10 years of hobby / enthusiast level self-learning on games development, including community-level playtesting / QA, games analysis and critique, and game design fundamentals.

All feedback is welcome and please reach out if you like any of my stuff or would like to collaborate! I live in Meanjin (Brisbane) and have been engaging with the local scene, so I hope to see you around and I can't wait to leave my creative mark on the Australian games industry!
